Veteran and pioneering entertainment guru, DJ Jimmy Jatt has weighed in on the purported beef brewing between DMW boss, Davido and Koko Master, D’banj. This follows wide reports in the entertainment circles that Davido dissed D’banj in the hit single, Orekelewa, in the second verse of the song which had these lines: “Na who dem dey ask what is the koko o / i con tell them owo ni koko / he still think say na him be the koko o /Gerrout outta here! / He forget say i don carry am go”.
While D’banj himself has not responded to the supposed dig, Jimmy Jatt has in a big brother role tried to play down any possibility of a beef cooking out of that verse. Rightly so, because he actually featured Davido as a vocalist on the track. According to the veteran, the fans are the ones reading such meanings of disrespect to the song as well as the reported beef. He said Davido wasn’t throwing shade at any one as he has a song titled Owo ni Koko and as far as he knows there is no bad blood between the two artists. Although he admitted to drawing Davido‘s attention to the said lines while they were working on the song, he said the intention was clearly not at cooking up a beef, and wondered why this is coming up about a song that has been out since September 2016.
Hear him: I don’t know why this is coming up now. The song came out since late September…last year. There was no thought in that direction…I think it’s just somebody’s imagination. I don’t believe it was done in that direction, and David says it’s not in that direction”
Big brother. But take another look at the lyrics or another listen of the song and let us know whether you agree with Jimmy Jatt . Davido, aka OBO, doesn’t hide his huge ego. The lad who also carries the tag ‘coolest kid Africa’ has also dropped similar lines a few years back in one his hit singles All Of You where he also mentioned D’banj alongside 2face, stressing that he is bigger than all of them! No reactions came from the two bigger boys, and many took it as just hype or shock effect. Well, consistency in that path may make you think otherwise about the one who is obviously the king when it comes to flaunting flamboyance.
