Jay Z is living the dream now, but he wasn’t always a millionaire 600 times over, a doting dad, or Beyoncé’s main man. In fact, based on what we’ve heard from this source and that, the rapper has a lot of skeletons. Here are a few shady stories about Hova we hope aren’t true.
In 1999, Jay Z reportedly stabbed music producer Lance “Un” Rivera at a record release party. For the longest time, it was rumored the altercation was over Un alleged leaking Jay Z’s album Vol. 3: The Life and Times of S. Carter. However, many feel the violence truly stemmed from Jay Z’s feelings for rapper Charli Baltimore, the Notorious B.I.G.’s ex-girlfriend.
Fellow rapper Cam’ron recently supported the latter theory in an interview with DJ Whoo Kid. “This was all over Charli Baltimore,” Cam’ron said. “I’m not going to get into the details of what happened and why..Jay liked Charli at one time…Un and Jay s**t: they can say a song leaked or whatever but it was over Charli Baltimore.”
Jay Z and BEyonce’s Marriage Is A Contract?
Sources claim the Carters are merely a contract; not crazy in love. “Business is always part of the equation. They know they’re the king and queen of hip-hop—and really, all of music. Neither wants to lose that,” an insider told Page Six.
The pair supposedly began as a romantic pursuit, but only on Hov’s end. According to Bey’s uncle, Larry Beyince (yes, Beyince), “He was after her and she wasn’t [interested]. She told me she wasn’t too fond of him,” he told Page Six. “I guess she wasn’t attracted to him.”
A source told Page Six, “Jay’s a kingmaker; she recognized that. This was a come-up for her, no question. She had to learn the ropes as presented by Jay—but really, this was mostly about business.” The source also claimed that before tying the knot, “they each had guilty pleasures” with other people.
“There’s no bigger controller than Jay. She’s great, but she’d be a little lower on the totem pole if it weren’t for hooking up with him,” the insider said. “They are solid, solid business people who know what they’re doing.” As far as staying together despite a slew of scandals, the source explained, “There’s face-saving involved—they don’t want to be looked at like other celebrities out there. They are business people first, entertainers second. Husband and wife comes somewhere down the line.”
If you thought Blue Ivy was Jay Z’s only kid, you may be mistaken, but no one’s really sure. The rapper has been embroiled in a paternity case regarding a young man named Rymir Satterthrwaite whose mother, Wanda, reportedly dated Jay Z in the ’90s. According to Radar Online, Satterthwaite, through his legal guardian, filed a civil lawsuit in December 2014 accusing Jay Z of manipulating the legal system to avoid a paternity test.
Satterthrwaite isn’t alone. In 2011, a man named Jerald Andrews initially claimed that DNA tests proved Jay Z fathered a son with Trinidadian model Shenelle Scott, but Andrews later claimed he knew nothing about a paternity test. The National Enquirer reported that Jay Z paid $1 million to keep his name off the child’s birth certificate, but Jay Z has never admitted to any children out of wedlock.
HOOKED UP WITH A FASHIO DESIGNER
In Beyoncé’s “Sorry” track off her notorious Lemonade album, she calls out “Becky with the good hair.” Her “Bey Hive” of fans immediately began investigating the lyric and soon decided “Becky” was fashion designer Rachel Roy. Roy was accused of being the fuel behind the infamous fight between Jay Z and Beyoncé’s sister, Solange Knowles, in an elevator during the 2015 Met Gala. The woman in question may have outed herself on Instagram. Just after Lemonade dropped, Roy posted a photo with the caption, “Good hair, don’t care.”
To be fair, Roy’s post confirms nothing because, as a source told Page Six, “[Roy] loves the attention and being in the headlines. I’m not surprised she would jump on this, especially after [what happened after] the Met Gala. It’s embarrassing, but Rachel loves press.”
Beyoncé has remained tight-lipped about Becky’s identity (or identities) in a Carly Simon-esque “you know what you did,” kind of way. It’s probably (hopefully) a better story in our imaginations, anyway.
HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH BEY’s DAD IS QUESTIONABLE
Talk about “Daddy Lessons.” A source told In Touch that Jay Z may actually be hiring hookers…with Beyoncé’s dad, Mathew Knowles. What the what? “One day while Jay and Mathew were at the Beverly Wilshire hotel [in Beverly Hills], a prostitute showed up and caused a huge scene out front,” a source said. “She was screaming wildly that they needed to pay her for [sleeping with] them both..There were endless women around for both Jay Z and Mathew.”
