The best defense is a good offense, President Trump contended in a clutch of early-evening tweets Saturday in which he seemed to argue he should keep up his Twitter habit.
“The FAKE & FRAUDULENT NEWS MEDIA is working hard to convince Republicans and others I should not use social media,” he wrote at 6:02 p.m.
“But remember, I won the 2016 election with interviews, speeches and social media. I had to beat #FakeNews, and did. We will continue to WIN!”
Six minutes later, he added a stinger: “I am thinking about changing the name #FakeNews CNN to #FraudNewsCNN!” He later pinned the tweet to the top of his page.
Trump has kept up an aggressive social media persona since his inauguration, despite many Republicans’ pleas for him to adopt a more dignified tone in keeping with Presidential tradition.
He seemed to have that critique in mind when he tweeted once again, shortly after departing his Bedminster, NJ golf resort for an appearance at a “Celebrate Freedom Concert” back in Washington.
“My use of social media is not Presidential – it’s MODERN DAY PRESIDENTIAL,” he wrote. “Make America Great Again!”
